Black Lipstick

We spent this past Shabbat attending a Bar Mitzva of a nephew. The simcha was beautiful, the kid is smart, and it's always nice to meet more of the interesting people we are related to. Seriously, we had a great time.

There's one thing that I don't get. A dozen or more women, mostly young and pretty (and married) were wearing this really dark lipstick. Purple, I guess it is, but a dark purple, almost black. What is the point of this? I guess with dark hair and a black dress, it makes the skin look whiter, if that's the look you want, but I found it truly...scary. Pink, even red, people have lips that color, it looks nice, pretty, healthy. But black? Lions have black lips. The Uruk-Hai in Lord of The Ring have black mouths. Anyway, if you can tell me why anyone would do this to an otherwise attractive face, let me know.
